Accept vs Except

They sound nearly the same, but do almost opposite jobs.

  • ACCEPT (verb) — to receive or agree to. I accept your apology.
  • EXCEPT — not including; apart from. Everyone came except the goat.

Quick tip: accept = receive (a yes); EXcept = EXclude (leave out).
